The Journal of Contemporary Political Issues
An Online Journal for High School Students

The JCPI is the world’s only peer-reviewed journal on politics contributed exclusively by high school students across the English-speaking world.  Edited and refereed by college political science instructors, the JCPI covers a wide range of political themes and perspectives.  In addition to publishing winning essays on a variety of topics and announcing runners-up, the JCPI will devote a section of each issue to honor those students who have excelled in civics/government courses.

The JCPI provides a variety of benefits.  For students intending to pursue higher education, being mentioned and/or published in such a selective journal as the JCPI is an excellent way to strengthen their competitiveness as college applicants.  Such achievements also stand to benefit high schools by enhancing their reputation, since a student's success often reflects on the quality of his/her education.

There is also a monetary incentive to get involved.  A $1,000 cash prize will be awarded to the author of each issue’s most popular essay, as determined by a popular vote.  Additionally, visitors to this website will have the chance of winning $250 for voting on their favorite essay.

Of much wider significance is that, by providing a forum in which students can develop and express their views on important political issues, this website responds to the pressing and widely-recognized need to stimulate political interest among our youth.
